An Organized Wiki is a Good Wiki

In order to address the long-standing issues with functionality and performance of the KS wiki, there is a space consolidation plan. To kick things off, one space – Documentation and Implementation – has already been eliminated, while planning is underway to merge the content of KS Kuali Student Entry Portal into KS Group. Please contact Scott Shepherd if you have content on KS Kuali Student Entry Portal and are concerned about the merger. Once completed, KS Kuali Student Entry Portal will be deleted.

image More than simply consolidating spaces, there will be an attempt to better define the purpose of each space. These space definitions include:

KS Groups (KULSTG): Designated for team collaboration only. This includes team members, contact info, schedules, calendars, meeting agendas, minutes, and other information on how the teams collaborate and operate.

KS Workspace (KULSTU): Designated space for ALL project deliverables and project artifacts. This space should not be organized by teams, but rather by type of content, i.e. Business Requirements, Services Design, Design Specs, Documentation, etc.

KS Archive (KULSTA): In order to keep the primary KS wiki clean, the idea is to archive old work that is no longer relevant. As there maybe a need to keep some content as a reference, the archive is available.  The space will be shared with other Kuali project, but KS content will have a specific tag/designation.

Florida State Announcement

As posted on Kuali.org, the following announcement was prepared by Florida State University:

Florida State University (FSU) signed on as a Founder of the Kuali Student System (KS) project in July 2007. We joined the consortium because the functional vision underlying the KS initiative is the right one for FSU and for higher education more broadly.

During the last year or so, the global financial crisis has had a profound effect on the state of Florida, resulting in massive funding cuts to FSU. We are now faced with budget reductions that compel us to focus our scarce resources on sustaining the operational base of our university’s information systems. The financial capacity to continue contributing to Kuali Student has vanished. Regrettably, we have no alternative but to withdraw our participation in the KS initiative, effective June 2010.

We will continue to follow the Kuali Student project and wish the KS team every possible success. FSU looks forward to the possibility of adopting one or more modules of the system in the future.

All-Hands Meeting and Update from the Board

This week, a Kuali Student all-hands meeting was held and included an important update on the recent Board meeting and a discussion on upcoming organizational changes planned for the project. Visit the KS wiki to review the Board highlights and listen to some of the audio from the beginning of the meeting (courtesy Tim H. and the IUG).

Burton Group Assessment and KS Response

Last month, the Burton Group, a research and consulting firm focused on in-depth analysis of enterprise information technologies, completed its assessment of service-oriented (SOA) design and development and presented its finding with the Functional Council. The report, presentation and KS response report can be found in the Functional Council agenda.
