LU Development Planning II @ Berkeley
Preparations are underway for a LU Development Planning meeting (Round 2). The meeting will be in Berkeley the week of Jan 26th.

Functional Council Refining Kuali University
The KS Functional Council reviewed the latest changes to Kuali University (KuU) at their Dec 11th meeting. Check out the emerging business model we will use for the reference implementation at https://test.kuali.org/confluence/x/l4HXBQ.

Urgent Microsoft IE Security Update
Microsoft released an urgent, out-of-band security update today (Wed 12/17) for Internet Explorer on all versions of Windows, see http://snipurl.com/8od1e. Try using Firefox!

U Maryland Regents Call for Furloughs
The Maryland Board of Regents directs UMd presidents to develop a furlough plan to cut the system's budget in response to the state budget woes. See http://www.usmd.edu/usm/chancellor/budget/

Kicking Butt in the New Year

  • Kathy Sierra weaves together neuroscience, tips on improving performance and factors necessary to get really good at something. She spoke at the O'Reilly Media Emerging Technology Conference in March.
  • Harvard Business IdeaCast 124: Leading Through the Downturn And Beyond, highlights three short topics, the last one, Stewart Friedman’s “Don’t Waste This Crisis”, is worth waiting for.

  • UC: Prepare Time Period melange.
  • App Design: Meetings with UCT, Services and Dev to vet handoffs from ADT
  • UX: Meetings with developers and App Design team about Org wireframes; Met with SFU (BC) to see demo of SIMS; Reviewed task list component spec with Wil; Reviewed task list component spec with Ricky Ratliff; Org flows; Met with Tom Lewis, UW Catalyst team manager; Added Complexity parameter to UX dashboard for module deliverables and components; Met with Sakai UX designer from Stanford.
  • Test lab: LUM/Rice/Oracle deployment under way; ongoing research and planning
  • Services: Focused heavily on analyzing and defining the LU types and LU Relation types, i.e. modeling courses and programs as Canonical Learning Units. Andy B (FSU) returned after a few days of sickness and joined Scott T (MIT) in a meeting with the App Design team.
  • Rice: KIM, Org, etc
  • Dictionary/Search: Spring/maven issues partly resolved on Enumeration Management service, some removal of excess spring injection pending; Dictionary based validation underway; Final work on search service API delayed due to Spring/Maven issues on Enumeration Management service

  • UC: Finishing up Time Period melange. Looking toward R2.
  • App Design: Finish Internal Review of Organization, Learning Objective,Learning Result, Time Period(?), UCT/ADT joint review of LO, LR
  • UX: LRC flow diagrams and wireframes; Discuss data structures implied by task list component with Ricky Ratliff; Org flows; ATP flow diagrams and wireframes; UX team organization; Wireframes for simple and comprehensive forms of LU proposal.
  • QA: Work on Functional QA section incorporating KFS QA where appropriate.

Mileage Reimbursement Rate Decreases in 2009
