KS New Team Assignments

As most are aware, Kuali Student team assignments have been revised for parallel development due to the reduction of available resources. We have shifted from four parallel teams to three. Many of the previous assignments are the same, but teams have been rebalanced to better manage the workload. A copy of the new Team Assignment chart can be sound on the project wiki. A few things to note about the new assignments:

1. The headings at the top loosely describe the functional categories of work as:

  • Programs/Program Rules
  • Course revisions, Experiential Learning, and Projects
  • Workflow, Action Lists, KIM/KEW Enhancements, JPA work for Rice

image 2. The specific work for each team needs to be defined at a much more detailed level. Rajiv Kaushik and a number of the team leads/architects will be holding a planning session to develop a very detailed work breakdown structure for each team. These specific work assignments will be communicated as soon as the planning is done.

3. The new team structure will go into effect when we move to parallel development at the end of September.

4. As we transition from our old structure to our new structure, we will be holding a kick-off meeting to ensure everyone is on the same page. Agenda items will include:

  • Detailed overview of the project plan and milestone dates for Release 1
  • Review of the team assignments
  • Overview of the roles and responsibilities of all positions
  • Description of the functional components that will be assigned to each team (work breakdown structure)
  • Other as required

5. This kick-off meeting will be conducted via video conference/breeze rooms. All project team members will be invited as well as the functional council/steering committee. The specific date and time of the meeting will be communicated shortly.

6. We will continue to balance or "tweak" the team assignments as we move forward if it is required. While we don't expect any significant changes, we must remain open to any improvements that will help move us forward faster.

7. As with the previous version, these team assignments are effective until the end of March 2010. At that time we will be structuring new assignments as we move into R2 development.

Collaboration Tools Move to Self-Subscribe

Do you have new team members coming aboard? Well, the Kuali Foundation and its affiliated projects have moved to a self-subscribe process for Confluence, Jira and Sakai. Information about the processes can be found at Membership Services.

Once registration is completed, new users needs to contact the wiki administrators through the listed e-mail and request access to Kuali Student project (Scott Shepherd will handle these requests). Please be sure to have new team members note what their role with the KS project will be.

KS Naming Conventions

Creating a new page in the wiki? Remember to use KS wiki naming convention.

Confluence allows only a single page with a given name within a particular space. As much of Kuali Student is within the same spaces, we need to make sure that we don't step on each other team’s work, while also trying to make sure that we have some additional information present regarding the contents of the page. Someone should be able to tell from the page title what a page is and potentially what a page is about. The title should provide the context (e.g., UC for use case, or FS for functional specs) and the topic .
