KS Team News 16: Construction Ahead

R1 development planning, Board approves R2 scope, MIT adds 3, Delta seeks Naval Post Grad School alliance, KuU draft, Stuart joins deployment team, Gary joins Wil’s team, UCB LUM implementation mtg, team highlights, calendar and more.

Project News

Development Plans
Steering Committee reviewed a high level, color coded draft gantt chart showing coordination between App Design (purple), Services (blue), Development (yellow) and Deployment (pink) teams. Expecting new project manager resource to help fill in details. Plan will be discussed in detail during post Kuali Days planning meetings.

Steering Committee Oct 23
MIT close to hiring a project manager. 34 people expected at next week’s orientation in Seattle (some sessions will betaped). Two committees are being chartered that will determine how Kuali Foundation projects develop and use shared components such as Kuali Rice, see https://test.kuali.org/confluence/x/UoCuBQ (technical) and https://test.kuali.org/confluence/x/LgDHBQ (application). KS Board Oct 20
Release 2 Scope presented and approved as internal document. “Q4 2009” approved as public release date for Release 1. CMU officially welcomed back. UW awaiting final approval from State of Wash. MIT adding 3 new team members. Delta seeking alliance with Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey California. Hiring freezes at UMD, UW and everyone being cautious given economy. Communications Team Oct 23
Scott Shepherd introduced as new chair of Communications Team. An updated KS brochure will be available soon with text consistent with website, updated timeline and FAQ, new members, and tech stack diagram. Participation message shifting slightly to encourage joining the Kuali Foundation instead of KS directly. More at https://test.kuali.org/confluence/x/V4EGBg.

Functional Council Oct 16
KuU work continues: Dean of Students added to VP Student Affairs; Registrar has exam scheduling, grades collection, program audit and evaluation, graduation; Added College of Engineering and School of Medicine to VP Academic Affairs and Provost.   • UC: Reviewed Modify Program and Organization Lifecycle melanges and added new feedback.
  • App Design: Rtrofit Create Course to accommodate Modify/Delete Lifecycles.
  • UX: Notification swimlane; Presentation for UC workshop; Working toward complete func specs for Create, Modify and Retire Course; UX Dashboard
  • Test lab: distributed deployment of PoC, ESB (Mule + Eclipse IDE); alternative "search service" <mural.dev.java.net>
  • Services: Identify service gaps. Added enumeration and expanded search operations to services. Explored composition of CLUs.

This Week:

  • UC: Release 2 workshop in Maryland.
  • App Design: Finish create, modify and delete functional specs.
  • UX: R2 workshop; Seattle Orientation presentation; Orientation process; Sketches of task list
  • Test lab: Demo-able deployment for orientation workshop.
  • Services: Model CLU patterns and identify potential LU type and LU LU Relations. Move toward getting service contracts to major release.
  • QA: Drafts of Project Mgmt, Development and Deployment sections.

LUM Implementation Planning Starts
