KS Communications Manager Coming Soon
The KS Board approved making an offer to fill the communication manager position. Look for a new member of the KS family coming from UMD in Oct or Nov. The mgr will engage in developing the external community, marketing the product and managing community expectations. In addition the mgr will also help w/ internal communications like on-boarding materials and general pieces that campuses could use in their local communications activities.
Rice Governance
Rice is becoming a Kuali project just like KFS or KS. As such they have investing partners (Cornell, Indiana, Arizona, UMD currently w/ UCSD, UWash, Iowa St possible) and a proposed governance structure, see https://test.kuali.org/confluence/download/attachments/87097571/Rice+Governance+Structures.doc (forward your comments to me or JR). Here are some highlights:
- Rice Board - Overall guidance and prioritization - Matt Coombs will be the KS rep.
- Rice Technology & Application Roadmap Committees - Architecture, goal setting and future direction. 'Big picture' as well as detailed understanding of issues. KS's reps not yet selected.
- Rice Technology & Application Integration Working Groups - Integration needs and specifications w/ Kuali Projects i.e. KFS, KS, KCeous. KS's reps not yet selected.
- Kuali Technical Council (KTC) and Kuali Integration Team (KIT) will be replaced by these RICE committees.
WS Atomic Transactions - Now just Transactions
Leo announced at the Tuesday Team Leads meeting that WS AT isn't working out and we should just refer to it now as 'Transactions'. The solution to this problem will be a big topic at the Oct Infrastructure Integrations workshop. Everyone should start earmarking existing use cases that involve transactions and pass them on to George and Randy.
Dictionary Service Evolution
As uncovered last week, many pieces of the former 'Dictionary Service' have found or will find new homes. The scope of the service is the same but it was determined that breaking it into separate pieces was a more efficient approach. Wil and his team are exploring the best approach to take for support of Dynamic Atributes.
Configuration User Interface Assumptions
The assumption is the configuration of release 1 will be done by technical BAs and developers. Configuration will likely rely heavily on files instead of a custom UI. Documentation will be VERY important for this approach and must be complete and comprehensive to be successful. Improvements are expected for future release.
Project Documentation
Cath is focusing more energy on documenting project methodology. A technical writer from MIT will be working w/Seth on this topic. In addition Val & Audrey are coordinating the 'on-boarding' documentation for new KS partners. Don't be surprised if your team gets a call from them asking about the best way to present your information. Oct 20-24 in Seattle is the proposed orientation workshop for new partners.
