KS Team News 10: Sep 18 2008

Wiki and Jira Upgrade this Weekend
This weekend a new version of the Wiki and Jira are being installed. Remember, no wiki or Jira work on Sat and Sun. If everything goes a planned, you will see a faster Wiki on Monday. There will be a few UI changes:
  • Edit link now in the upper right (pencil icon).
  • Attachments, Info links also in the upper right, under the Tools link (gear icon)
  • Pdf icon is now Export as PDF link under the Tools link (for you gear-heads out there see the new View Wiki Markup under Tools as well).
  • Browse Space link now in the top line under Browse.
  • Header formatting (i.e. h1 h2 etc) no longer have thin blue lines or grey backgrounds.
  • Page content shows up higher on the page due to a thinner page header.
See both UI's side by side at https://test.kuali.org/test-confluence/x/EAAmBQ (Don't freak about about the green color the lovely reddish color is still the production color.)

Future KS Releases Roadmap
Review the latest proposed overall release schedule:
https://test.kuali.org/confluence/download/attachments/40961/KS+Overall+Release+Schedule+V2.doc The Functional Council is reviewing today and Thu Oct 2nd. The Leadership Team is also reviewing and we need to organize a campus review as well. Ultimately the KS Board would like to consider the approval of the roadmap at their Oct 20th meeting.

Infrastructure Integration Workshop Oct 6-9
The workshop agenda (https://test.kuali.org/confluence/x/3IAsBQ) for M-Tu is nearly complete. Andy and Scott T will be reviewing the Service Implementation Spec Tues afternoon to ensure the development team can efficiently work with the spec. The W-Th agenda will be finalized over the next week. Randy, George and Tomo will be attending.

Project Resources

The following positions are being sought:
  • Project Control Manager to be filled at MIT.
  • Documentation and Training Material Coordinator possibly a CMU contribution.
  • Technical Writer currently a part-time contribution by MIT's Paul Luke.
  • Business Analysts coming from UBC (Brittney Brokenshire) and possibly UWash.
  • Testing Coordinator has not found a campus sponsor yet.
  • Developers have not found a specific campus sponsor yet, however JR is looking to get a developer from Berkeley.
Cath is drafting a new "Roles and Responsibilities" piece that adds additional detail to the original charter description of each project position. Look for it soon. Kristine Batiste (UX team) might relocate to the Berkeley campus (she is a US citizen in Canada on a visa).

Kuali University Concept
Cath and Leo are exploring the idea of creating a comprehensive set of test data that would mirror a fictitious, representative institution of higher learning, i.e. Kuali University (KU). KU's faculty/staff directory would help KIM development, KU's organization chart would help KOM and KU's catalog would help LUM development. This is still in the conceptual stage. Involvement of the Functional Council and SMEs likely. More to come.

Berkeley's 2012 Community Council Meeting

Notes from the Sep 8th meeting are now available at http://students.berkeley.edu/wiki/ow.asp?MtgSept808 Highlights include David being welcomed into the committee, Anne De Luca providing an update about LUM functional scope, announcement that Johanna will be working to re-engineer the course approval process when she returns to the Registrar on Nov 1st. Jon Conhaim talked about the Scheduling RFP project, Cheryl Resh and Meg Fink provided an update on ProSAM and Tim and JR provided a KS update.

bSpace and Sakai our Community Source Cousins on Campus
Over the last few months, institutions within the Sakai community, including UC Berkeley, have started to outline a vision and road map for what is being called Sakai 3.0 — Sakai's current release is version 2.5 and is the software on which bSpace is based. Central to this vision is a shift in design focus away from heavyweight applications and complex multi-click workflows, towards smaller bits of aggregated functionality that allow users to accomplish many of their more frequent tasks on a single screen. See http://inews.berkeley.edu/articles/Fall2008/bSpace
