The KS Functional Council endorsed the proposed overall release schedule (see last week's news) at their Sep 18th meeting. Highlights from the meeting:
- Focusing on grade collection and program audit early will test performance.
- Early Learning Plan work will provide new functionality for students.
- UMCP and UBC plan to begin data conversion and configuration after release R2a and to go live with some components after R2b.
- Learning Plan components in R2 will present the biggest challenge for the design team.
- Amount of Scheduling included in R2a to be reviewed so only bare minimum included.
- R1, R2 Roadmap Recap (RRRR)
Release 1 - Learning Unit Inventory: Learning units (courses, programs, projects, experiential learning, learning objectives) will be created and serve as foundation for relationships between learners and learning units in Enrollment.
Release 2a - LU Instance Environment: Creation of instances of learning units (LUI) to which learners are enrolled. LUI is the foundation for creating historical records and registering into current offerings.
Release 2b - LUI Learning Results to Learners (back-end): Creation of historic relationships between learners, LUIs and learning results (grades, degrees, etc). Release 2c - Register Learners in current LUI offerings (registration): Registration of learners into specific learning instances including management of seat pools, waitlist management and integration with the Learning Plan and Program Audit.
Tuesday Leadership Meetings
The Steering Committee and Team Leads will begin to meet separately on alternating weeks, i.e. this week the Team Leads met, next week the larger Steering Committee will meet.
This week the Team Leads discussed consistency, efficiency and coordination among teams as we move toward development of R1. Discussion focused on inter-team communications with current teams composition and leadership and accountability remaining unchanged. 'Agile Scrum' labels were replaced with 'Point People' and 'Owner' labels. The discussion continues.
Functional and service implementation specs will start to be available in Nov. Additional bundles of specs will be delivered periodically until Mar 2009.
Use Case Team Planning Workshop
The Use Case/UX teams are planning a Release 2 workshop for around the end of Oct or beginning of Nov.

Berkeley News
KS Team Open House
Thanks to James (w/ help from Sara and Yu-Tin), RSVPs are rolling in for the KS Team Open House on Oct 2nd, 2-4pm. We will attempt to stream the event live via http://www.ustream.tv/channel/kuali-student for anyone who can't be here in person.
Mingling on Campus, Fun and Educational
Last week Sara & James attended the L&S Undergraduate Division Fall Reception. They met new faces: Physics Professor Bob Jacobsen, Programmer Russ Connacher, USAF Lt. Col. Brian Stone of the Dept of Aerospace Studies and the new Dean of Undergraduate Advising Tyler Stovall among others. They learned new things: the ROTC program, the soon-to-be-released undergraduate advising system ISIS, and the trials of articulation and advising. And ate good food. Thanks to James for bringing this and other campus events to the team's attention. I encourage you to take advantage of these informal information gathering and relationship building opportunities.
